My goal here was to learn as much as possible about using various aspects of 3d software to compose a single illustration.
The biggest lesson learned with this piece is that I'll need a more powerful computer if I have any hope of consistently building complex scenes in blender. My teeny tiny laptop has taken a thorough beating. Blender kept crashing due to lack of enough RAM, rendering high resolution images took hours. Future images eventually kept crashing every time I tried to render, because the scene had gotten way too complex. I eventually gave up and moved on to the photoshop paintover.
Many of the simple little assets in this scene (trash can, traffic cones, scaffolding, utility poles, etc) were gotten from various free websites. I did however sculpt the dude in the yellow suit and his gun using Quick Tools, a series of a series of addons for Blender created by Jama Jurabaev and ALKNSDR.
Despite all the frustrations I faced with this illustration, I learned a lot from this experience. Most importantly, I had a ton of fun.
